An study of the right-hemisphere
deficiency and suicide suggested that due to functional insufficiency of
the right hemisphere the suicidal person demonstrates a compensatory
shift to left hemisphere functioning. This shift manifests itself in
reversed asymmetry of neurotransmitters, tendency to dissociation,
alienated and negative perception of the body, lower sensitivity to
pain, disintegration of self-representation, cognitive constriction,
overly general nature of personal memories, difficulties in affect
regulation as well as such personality traits as low openness to
